Former UK leader Cameron to speak in October

David Cameron, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom who resigned from his position following the Brexit vote last July, will visit Rapid City on Oct. 9 as part of the John T. Vucurevich Foundation’s annual speaker series.

Tickets to the event, which will be held in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, will be available for purchase at beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Tickets will cost $7 for adults and $3 for students.

Carmen Hansen, event coordinator, said she doesn’t expect the tickets to be around long.

“I fully expect it to sell out within hours,” Hansen said, noting that tickets to the 2015 event featuring astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson sold out in 30 minutes. “The last four or five speaker events we’ve had have sold out within the same day.”

The event will follow a moderated conversation format, Hansen said, with questions to be chosen ahead of the event. Hansen expects Brexit and the world economy to be addressed, though “it will be a wide variety of topics.”

Hansen explained that the event is meant for the Rapid City and West River community and ticket prices remain low to make the event available to everyone. Ticket purchases will be limited to six per transaction.

“Our main focus is to provide our community an opportunity to hear from someone who they wouldn’t be able to hear from without us,” she said.

As for any advice about buying the tickets before they sell out, Hansen said she recommends setting up a gotmine account with up-to-date financial information so when the clock strikes 10 a.m. on Monday, a few clicks will be all it takes to secure a seat.

For security reasons, some final details of the event, including starting time, will be made available only to ticket-holders, she said.
